Windows 10 is after end of support

Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. After this date, computers running Windows 10 continue to work, but standard support no longer includes technical assistance, new features or free security fixes through Windows Update.

For a company, this is not only about user comfort. An unsupported operating system gradually becomes a security, operational and business risk, especially if it connects to the company network, works with personal data or runs critical applications.

If you still have Windows 10 in your company, the most important first step is a device inventory: how many devices you have, what their parameters are, what runs on them and which of them must remain in operation without downtime.

What changed after 14 October 2025

Without another plan or the paid Extended Security Updates programme, Windows 10 remains outside standard support. The system will not stop working overnight, but over time the risk of incidents and incompatibility increases.

  • No standard security fixes New vulnerabilities may no longer be fixed by a normal Windows Update, increasing the risk of malware, ransomware and endpoint compromise.
  • No new features or regular technical support After the end of support, Microsoft does not present Windows 10 as a recommended platform for further operation, except for specific scenarios such as ESU or selected LTSC editions.
  • Higher risk of software conflicts Business applications, drivers, security tools and peripherals will gradually focus more on Windows 11 and supported platforms.
End of Microsoft 365 support on Windows 10
Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 may continue to work, but Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11; security updates for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 are planned to continue until 10 October 2028.

How this affects Microsoft 365 and business applications

With Microsoft 365, it is important to distinguish whether the application technically runs from whether the whole environment is supported and suitable for long-term business operation. Microsoft states that support for Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows 10 ended together with Windows 10 support, although it plans to provide security updates for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 until 10 October 2028.

In practice, this means companies should not postpone the transition only because Word, Excel or Outlook still launch. What matters is the overall security of the device, add-in compatibility, profile stability, data backup and central user management.

What options you have

The right approach depends on hardware condition, applications in use, licences and user requirements. In practice, several options are often combined at once.

Upgrade compatible devices to Windows 11

If the device meets Windows 11 hardware requirements, this is often the fastest path. Before deployment, however, applications, drivers, backups and user profiles must be checked.

Replace unsupported hardware

If a device does not meet the requirements, it is worth considering a new computer with Windows 11. With a larger number of workstations, replacement can be planned gradually according to risk and workplace importance.

Extended Security Updates as a temporary solution

The ESU programme allows selected devices to continue receiving critical and important security updates. For commercial and educational organisations, it is a paid option for a maximum of three years after the end of Windows 10 support, not a replacement for modernisation.

How Yenwa can help you with this

At Yenwa, we handle the transition from older company devices so the migration is not chaotic and users do not lose data, access or a working environment.

  • Hardware check We identify which devices are ready for Windows 11, which need service and which are more reasonable to replace.
  • Safe migration We prepare backups, deployment steps, user profiles, applications and recovery so downtime is as short as possible.
  • Connection with Microsoft 365 and cloud We align devices with accounts, e-mail, OneDrive, SharePoint, security policies and access management.
  • Supply and setup of equipment We can help select new computers, notebooks and peripherals and prepare them for the company environment.
  • Security settings We configure updates, device protection, access, MFA, backups and basic user rules.

What to watch when planning

The biggest problems arise when migration is solved only during an outage or after a security incident. Before the transition, we recommend reviewing mainly these areas.

  • device compatibility with Windows 11, including TPM, processor and drivers,
  • backup of user data and availability of recovery,
  • review of licences, applications and company add-ins,
  • deployment plan by departments or priorities,
  • security rules for e-mail, access and cloud services,
  • communication to users so they know what changes and when.

What happens if you do nothing

Running unsupported computers may not fail immediately, but it increases the likelihood of problems that are later more expensive and solved under greater pressure.

  • Higher attack risk An unsupported system is a more attractive target for ransomware, phishing and data theft.
  • Non-functional or unstable software Newer applications and security tools may stop being tested for Windows 10.
  • Weaker proof of security If you process personal or sensitive company data, outdated devices may complicate audits, insurance claims and internal security rules.

Recommended next step

The end of Windows 10 support is a good opportunity to clean up company IT: map devices, retire risky hardware, update security rules and prepare users for a more modern work environment.
